This method is in wide use since it satisfies many industrial requirements for color in plastics. CIELab is described by the following:

L – Absolute lightness or darkness on a scale of black to white.

a – Red to Green with + numbers indicating increased redness and – numbers indicating increased greenness.

b – Yellow to Blue with + numbers indicating increased yellowness and – numbers indicating blueness.
